In the early days before HTML5 and web browsers there existed the BBS.  One intrepid developer has created a mostly functional version of Google in the form of a BBS.  BBS stands for Bulletin Board System, in case you are too young to remember.  BBS's were the way many got their roots on the "Internet".  Back in the good old days, you would dial a phone number using a modem to connect to the BBS.
